Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's first championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.

Success also indicates he has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to wonder if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

He came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
